Founded in 1946, The School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign has over 20 faculty with expertise that span Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Labor Studies, Labor Economics, Labor Law and Cross-cultural Studies.

Although there is no formal ranking process for HR/IR programs, employers and students acknowledge that the University of Illinois is one of the top programs in the nation.
Enrollments
In 2018-19, LER master’s students came from 80 undergraduate institutions (40 domestic and 40 international), 61 majors, 14 states, and seven countries. The class is 73% female, 25.2% minority (15.6% African American, Latino and Native American; 9.6% Asian American). The class is 33% international. Thirty-two percent have at least one year work experience and the average age is 23.
Our alumni
There are over 3500 School alumni employed in almost every state in the U.S. plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and in more than 30 foreign countries. Among them are senior corporate executives, government officials, HR consultants, union officials, faculty members, and university administrators.
