Biography

Elizabeth Watts Malouchos, Ph.D., RPA

Liz is a Research Archaeologist and Collaborative Research Liaison at the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, American Bottom Field Station. Liz first worked for ISAS as an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois and recently returned after earning her doctorate at Indiana University. She has conducted field research across the Midwestern United States, particularly in Illinois and Indiana, but has also worked in Alaska and Greece. Her research focuses on the relationships between communal identity formation and the built environment, specifically the intersections between everyday practices, household and community architecture, and socio-religious integration during the Mississippian period (AD 1000-1600) across the Midwest and Southeastern US. Her interests also include archaeological geophysics, ceramic analysis, developing collaborative research, sexual harassment and assault in contemporary archaeological practice, and graduate student mentorship.
