Biography

Prior to working at ISAS, Steve served as a Senior Archaeologist with the Museum Archaeology Program, Wisconsin Historical Society, from 1992 through 2006. Early on, he worked for the Institute for Minnesota Archaeology and various cultural resource management firms in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Colorado, and North Dakota. While his primary focus has been faunal analysis, he has directed numerous Phase I, II, and III field investigations and lab analyses, and authored over 130 technical reports.

As a contract faunal analyst, Steve has examined prehistoric and historic zooarchaeological assemblages from sites across the Midwest and Southeastern United States. Previous clients include Midwest Archaeological Research Services, Midwest Archeological Center-National Park Service, Commonwealth Cultural Resource Group, Louis Berger and Associates, Office of the State Archaeologist-Wisconsin Historical Society, Mackinac State Historic Parks, Loyola University, AVD Archaeological Services, Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Archaeological Research Laboratory.
